      The Heizka optical fiber patch cord and pigtail range covers the two connectorised fiber leads used to complete a fiber link at either end: the patch cord, terminated with connectors at both ends for jumpering between patch panels, equipment and enclosures, and the pigtail, terminated with a connector at one end and a bare fiber at the other for fusion splicing into a cable or splice tray. Both share the same connector, polish and fiber-grade options, so a single ordering scheme covers fiber patch panels, splice closures and equipment cross-connects.

      Available in simplex and duplex configurations, in OM2, OM3, OS2 and G657A fiber, and in PC, UPC or APC polish, every optical fiber patch cord and pigtail is built with an LSZH jacket, colour-coded yellow for single-mode and orange for multi-mode, and can be ordered in custom lengths and connector combinations to suit the job at hand.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      What is the difference between a patch cord and a pigtail?

      A patch cord has factory-fitted connectors on both ends and is used to jumper between two connectorised points, such as a patch panel port and a switch. A pigtail has a connector on only one end; the other end is bare fiber, fusion-spliced onto a cable inside a splice tray or closure. Most installations use both an optical fiber patch cord and pigtail together, one on each side of a splice point.

      What do OM2, OM3, OS2 and G657A mean?

      OM2 and OM3 are multimode fiber grades, OS2 is a standard single-mode fiber grade, and G657A is a bend-insensitive single-mode fiber suited to tight bends in cabinets and closures. The right grade should match the fiber grade already used on the rest of the link.

      Can I order a custom connector combination or length?

      Yes. The item number encodes connector type, polish, fiber grade and length, so combinations such as LC-SC or ST-FC patch cords, or pigtails in a specific connector and polish, can be ordered by changing the corresponding code, and length is customised beyond the default.

      Why are single-mode and multi-mode cords different colours?

      Single-mode patch cords and pigtails use a yellow jacket and multi-mode versions use orange, a colour convention that lets installers identify the fiber mode at a glance and avoid connecting mismatched links.

      What polish should I choose, PC, UPC or APC?

      The polish must match the equipment and adaptor already in use on the link: PC and UPC are common on multimode and general single-mode links, while APC is used where very low back-reflection is required, such as analogue video or high-bit-rate single-mode systems.
